Thanks Wolf.  I'll try to find them and if anyone else knows of other 'no copy' software I'd sure appreciate a link.

I REALLY need it on Challenge and have struggled to find something that will work with WordPress.

I never thought of it like that but they can steal your work to easy. Copy and print...OMG!
There is a group called Copyscape, I think that's the right name and then people cant copy off your web site. It might be worth looking into there program.

You’re both absolutely right and thanks for your comments. I was really surprised with the level of support I got. Everyone is so sick of plagiarism. I discussed what happened in the Challenge forum and several of the artists took it upon themselves to write the school district also. (The school was just slammed with complaints.)  Even Google techs helped me because they were so outraged. (And the Challenge is W.P! lol ) They told me specifically how to proceed and what to say to the school.

As artists one of the biggest problems is people stealing our jpgs, turning them into prints and selling them on eBay. Short of putting copyrights across the image - the only thing we can do is reduce the size of the jpg where making a print of it is futile.

Plagiarism is theft by all definition and feels the same as if someone has burglarized your home.   Fortunately the head of this school district stepped up to the plate and amended the situation quickly.

Plagiarism is rampant these days!  With so much information so easily available people don't even think about copying someone else's work.  The shame of it is that sometime they don't even know that they are harming the person's site that they found so amazing they wanted to copy.

Hi Vikki

Yes this happens everyday unfortunately  Angry I have see it many times.

Sometime it's a good thing to Google your own blog and then copy the title used in Google and add a ... then your blog name and search again.
I do this and I am amazed at how many I find using our name title and content. I have even had to go as far as sending a DMCA to the host because the site would not take down our content.

At least you have it all straight now, that's a good thing.

I recently had someone actually plagiarize The Artist Challenge.  They even called their site ‘The Artist Challenge’ which is my licensed online business name.  They literally copied and pasted the text. They even left it colorized and designed as I have it on the Challenge. They just took my name off and put in their own! And of all places and people-it was a public school and a teacher. I knoooow!

I wont tell you who at this point, because I don‘t want to do that. They’ve apologized and have taken all the appropriate steps including taking the website down. In fact the district called me and they were extremely gracious BUT I was just blown away to say the least. The site had been online since this past February!

How I found it?  I was checking my page ranking and wal-la!!  Up came my own words with someone else’s name as host. (And yes- I have copyrights head to foot all over the Challenge.)

Plagiarism is really hurtful and its also illegal. As I told this school, if they had wanted to do a challenge similar to ours for their students, I would have been MOST happy to help them- if they had just asked.

I guess the thing I’d like to say about it is: This online process is basically a new world for all of us. We’re just now setting our boundaries but we need to understand that intellectual properties we find and like on a blog or website belong to someone else.

Vikki
